New feature: eBay engine
We just uploaded a new search engine for Nibbo: eBay auctions! It will show information like the current price, bids, remaining time... We'll be including another search engine in the next few days, and soon enough we hope to offer support for themes.
Enjoy!
User interface tweaks
During the past few days we've been adding a few tweaks on the user interface:
- The previews and options columns in the search results screen will now follow the scroll. As this can be distracting for some people, a new option has been added to disable this behavior.
- Added a "See more" link to the previews panels and tooltips, which will set that search type as the main one.
We hope you like the changes! Feel free to comment about them or drop us a line.
Improvements in existing search plugins
We're happy to announce that the Digg, Yahoo! Answers and Twitter search plugins now have the ability to show multiple pages of results.
The Twitter search has also been improved to "understand" links, users and tags in the tweets content.
We expect to add a new search type this week!
New features!
During the past few days we've been working on several improvements for Nibbo:
- Regular tooltips will not disappear when taking the mouse cursor on them.
- "More information" option for Flickr search results.
- "Preview search" mode for related searches.
- Refinements work again for Wikipedia search.
... and we added a new search engine type: feeds. This type is useful to discover new RSS/Atom feeds related to your searches, which can then be added to any feed reader.
Enjoy!
… and we’re back!!
After the summer holidays, it's time to go back to work and make Nibbo better!
During the last months I suspected that there was a bug that nullified Nibbo's start page; as it was uncommon, I was unable to fix it until today, so I'm happy to announce that this problem will not occur again.
I'll start working on new feature from today, including the themes, new search engine types, and more. Stay tuned!
New feature: other engines
We just implemented a new feature: "other engines". There's a new button in the previews column named "Other Engines", which provides access to all the engines that have not been added. Click on the desired search type, and it will open as the main search without any need to change the configuration; an "add" button will be present, so just click there to add that search to your engine list.
Also, two additional options have been added to hide the "Other Engines" and/or "Customize Previews" buttons.
We're still working on the manual, so we hope to have it online in a few days.
New feature: popular searches
Yesterday we spiced up Nibbo's home page by showing the current most popular searches in the Web. The information is obtained from Google Trends, and is updated every hour; just click on the topic, and the search will start automatically.
We're currently working on the manual, which we hope to make available soon. After that, we've some nice new features on our to-do list to develop
New feature: Digg engine
We added support to search in another popular service: Digg.
Of course, it comes with settings, refinements, tooltip... So, if you like digg, this engine is a must.
The "add engine" section has been tweaked a little; now there's a "Targeted" section, which is meant to be the place for all engines that target a specific service, like Wikipedia, Twitter, Digg...
We're planning to include at least two more engines in the near future, but first we want to implement a help section to explain how to use Nibbo. Stay tuned!
Minor updates
We just updated Nibbo with the following changes:
- Clicking on the preview header will open that preview engine as the main search. To toggle it (like before), click on the arrow next to the icon, or edit that engine settings in the control panel. In the case the old mode is preferred, a new "Options" panel has been added to the control panel, which contains a setting to change this functionality and make it exactly like before.
- Now it's possible to change the order of the elements of the search results page. Go to the "Options" section in the control panel, and check the "Results page order" setting. The tooltip will be repositioned at the left of the previews column if necessary.
Have fun!
New feature: Yahoo! Answers engine
We just added a new feature: a new engine, this time for Yahoo! Answers. You may add it from the "Settings" > "Layout" panel.
Yahoo! Answers is a popular service in which users post questions, and other users will post answers to them. In the end, the question creator will pick an answer.
The Nibbo engine will show the most relevant fields from that answer, like the category, publication date, chosen answer, and more. It also offers a number of settings and refinements.
